The issue for Sports Professionals…
Careers for sports professionals end with a significant amount of time left to pursue another career. However, options for advice on this are scarce. In January 2022, Crystal Palace became the first football club to offer the opportunity to assist 18-23 year olds with their options once they are released. Phrases attached to this issue are duty of care, moral obligation and very importantly mental health. Whatever age, when a person’s time in any sport comes to an end, the adaptation to another can be extremely difficult.
Sports professionals have numerous transferrable skills that can be harnessed and used properly in other fields, not just if they remain in their chosen sport.
